Let’s face it, people tend to focus on their physical appearance. And while we all understand that it’s what is on the inside that counts, that can cause a great deal of trepidation within us all as well. Most of us are worried about grades, getting into college, performing athletically, and at the same time, relationships are causing stress. There’s a lot of negative energy and anger that results.
Although many people don’t know it, there is a way to balance both making yourself look good for that person you have a crush on and being able to release negative energy from your body. The solution? Exercise.
We all know that exercise is very important in our daily lives, but we may not know why or what exercise can actually do for ourselves.
LHS sophomore Aidan Murtha believes working out is a necessity in an individual’s life. He said, “To be honest, lifting changed my life. Lifting changed my life because it gave me the confidence I needed and helped me mentally win every battle in life.”
Evidently, 40 million Americans have been affected by some type of anxiety or depression. Exercise has been provento improve someone’s mental health by minimizing anxiety, negative mood, depression but confidence and self-esteem. But how can something as simple as going for a walk or doing yoga have such a positive impact on your mental health?
Physical activity and exercise is a healthy way to both get your body into better shape and also to release frustration along with anger. No matter what you do, lift weights, yoga, stretch, or go for a run; the physical release of negative energy will leave you feeling refreshed.
Sophomore Kyle Moison also believes that exercise can really help a person feel better about themselves.“I love to lift because I love the feeling of being able to improve yourself physically but also mentally,” he said. “Once you determine that number in your head that you want to hit, it will help you strive to hit it.”
Clinical Psychologist, Jenny C. Yip from Los Angeles truly believes that exercise increases the morale of an individual. As she is quoted in an article written by Sara Lindberg, a health and fitness write with INSIDER, reported, “Exercise also increases blood circulation in the brain, which is linked to improvements in mood and attention. Spending as little as 20 minutes a day on exercise can actually increase your overall productivity, and decrease energy wasted from mental stress.”
If you are a person that tends to stress more than you should, exercise may be the solution to your everyday battle. If you have not tried exercising before, give it a chance, see if it helps you. Also, other options you could chose is changing your everyday diet to something healthier, viewing health programs may be the secret to your happiness.
