Rough Regular Season for the Celtics
Last season the Boston Celtics made the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers and lost in game 7. Everyone was talking about how they were a young and talented team with a new leader that got them to that point. Currently, they are in 5th place in the eastern conference compared to last years 2nd place in the eastern conference. Boston only have 20 games left and are struggling to get a higher seed and are 4-6 in their last ten games.
Last season they acquired all star guard Kyrie Irving, who had an incredible season that contributed to their 55-27 record. Kyrie was an asset that had the media hyped up and fans all around.
This season just the opposite is happening. The media and fans are talking about Kyrie Irving negatively because of the slacking season they are currently having. The Celtics are losing to many teams that they have always been better than and Kyrie is taking his frustration out on his own teammates. After a close loss to the Orlando Magic this season, he said “The young guys don’t know what it takes to be a championship level team. What it takes every day. And if they think it is hard now, what do they think it will be like when we’re trying to get to the Finals” (NBA.com). Kyrie talked about being a championship level team because when he was on the Cleveland Cavaliers with Lebron James, they went to the finals 3 straight seasons in a row and won a championship against the Golden State Warriors, a very skillful team that Boston might have to compete against in this years finals.
Boston has been a great team for the past few years and they are not looking to end this streak now. The team is lacking communication and the leadership from Kyrie that he is supposed to give to his teammates for a confidence booster. The Boston Celtics will have to do a lot in order for the former eastern conference finalists to make it to the NBA Finals this season.
